General Description
This position will be cross-trained so as to handle maintenance or cleaning assignments. Skills in all areas are required. The position is accountable to the Terminal Operations Manager for complete plant operations including grading, receiving grain, quality control, cleaning, shipping, drying grain and plant maintenance. The incumbent will work closely with the Buying personnel to assist with the organization of grain deliveries to help the terminal achieve profitability and production efficiency.

Principle Accountability

  1. Helps make plant operating decisions to ensure plant is at optimal efficiency and at least cost. Helps scheduling of equipment so that maximum production, greatest productivity can be derived from the operation. This requires timely scheduling so that programs are not disrupted as far as cleaning and shipping are concerned. When sale requirements are such that a high volume of cleaning is required, extra shifts are scheduled to maintain continuous flow of grain through the terminal.

  2. Incumbent helps define grain/grade standards that must be achieved at GNG so that personnel involved in the grading will know what the overall goals and objectives are. This is done by monitoring grading procedures and recommending blending alternatives to maintain grade returns and unloads so that a cut off position can be positively affected. Helps establish blending techniques so that a balance of company objectives and producer expectations can be achieved. This provides a valuable customer service and enhances GNG’s ability to buy grain and increase productivity. In-house quality must also be maintained and monitored by implementing regular bin turning procedures.

  3. Sets and maintains cleaning standards so that sales objectives are met. This is done by monitoring cleaning procedures and suggesting screen sizes and equipment to use. To maintain these standards, certain monitoring procedures are in place including regular sampling of the product being processed. Samples are checked and documented for dockage, protein, etc., and recorded so they can be continuously monitored.

  4. Incumbent ensures that all safety procedures are followed and safety standards are met so that all risk of injury, property loss or damage to the environment is eliminated or kept to a minimum. Certain safety standards such as housekeeping and maintenance must be established so that a continual high level of performance is maintained.

  5. The incumbent is responsible for the day to day repair and maintenance of all the cleaning equipment, legs, conveyors and screw augers used in the cleaning process. The millwright must be advised immediately of any repairs requiring his expertise.

Reporting Requirements
Presently no staff at GNG reports to this position, but from time to time casual staff will be assisting the incumbents and at the time the incumbent is responsible for the casual workers performance. This position reports to the Terminal Operations Manager.
